A MECHANIC rang alarms after he said modern car drivers have fried electrical components from an avoidable mistake.

The mechanic says a simple error could backfire when fixing your car’s battery – he claims 90% of drivers don’t know the correct rules.

“Never leave your car running when you jump-start someone else’s vehicle, unless you don’t like your car,” Larry Williams, a mechanic shop owner, told Independent Record in 2013.

Modern vehicles, stocked with hundreds of computer sensors and microchips, are all connected via the car’s centralized battery.

The battery operates, even when the car is shut off, Williams said.

This trend of powered-off battery work has expanded since 2013 with the growing use of technology like idling anti-theft security and accessory mode features.
