Gas prices surge through holiday travel [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Gas prices across the nation are soaring and we are experiencing a surge in prices locally, too.

The national average gas price is $3.53, according to AAA. In Nevada, the average price is $4.39, up nearly a dollar. Washoe County is facing even higher prices at the pump. Right now, the people are paying close to $5.

“In Oregon, the gas was $4.03 a gallon for regular. Here it is $4.59. I have seen it in California, it is over 6 bucks,” said Jerry Grissom, who has been traveling through California, Nevada and back to Oregon. “I fill up here purposely because my car with a full tank will get me all the way home and I won’t have to use California gas.”

California’s average price is just over $5, which impacts Nevadans because most of the gas is from refineries in San Francisco or Los Angeles.
