BROOKINGS, Ore. — Tonight, the Brookings City Council is expected to formally oppose the development of windmills on the Oregon Coast. The Brookings project would be 133,000 acres and about 18 miles off the coast.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says if fully developed, the windmills could support 2.4 gigawatts of energy production. One gigawatt is enough energy to power about 750,000 homes.

Concerns have been raised about impacts to the coast, and the views that make the Oregon coast special.
