SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Sioux Falls Fire Rescue led a controlled burn on Wednesday at Pasley Park to help limit the spread of invasive plants.

Department leaders said the burn helps restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential.

They added that a lot goes into scheduling these burns and they carefully assess the most appropriate days by looking at local conditions to ensure a safe and effective burn.

Firefighters remained onsite to manage the burn and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

According to the Minnehaha County Conservation District, prescribed burns are just one tool to improve wild habitats.
