World leader in single atom catalysts relies on CLS to drive advances in field

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) hold immense potential in meeting growing demand for clean and sustainable energy. With conventional catalysts only a small percentage of the catalytic material is used in the chemical reaction, making them inefficient and wasteful. In comparison, SACs make reactions more efficient, use less rare metals, and improve the performance of devices like fuel cells and batteries. Dalhousie University’s Dr. Peng Zhang is a world leader in the field of single-atom catalysts; he’s been using synchrotron facilities and techniques for more than 20 years ago. He says his research would be impossible without access to world-class facilities like the CLS and APS (Advanced Proton Source).
