COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVG) – A former Bowling Green strength coach awaits sentencing after a jury convicted him of raping multiple students. Now a state senator wants to change the law to help his victims transfer schools and play sports again right away.

Zachary Gibson’s sentencing is scheduled for next week after that jury convicted him of multiple crimes, including rape and sexual battery. He faces up to 98 years in prison.

After this story surfaced, State Senator Theresa Gavarone says she learned about some new challenges facing Gibson’s victims.

She says some are all-state level players fighting to get college scholarships, including home school students, but they wanted out of Bowling Green. There was an adjacent district ready to take them in, but Gavarone said state law would force them to sit out portions of the upcoming season because they were transferring.
