A divide is growing in Montpelier about how to solve the state’s housing crunch [Video]

Vermont’s housing crunch and how to fix it was at the top of mind for many in Montpelier heading into this legislative session. In recent weeks, Gov. Phil Scott has expressed his frustrations with the lack of progress. Tuesday morning he took to X, and said he was concerned about a House bill that was set to hit the floor Tuesday, but delayed to Wednesday saying, “If passed, H.687 will make it harder to build housing units in most parts of the state, which could make our housing crisis permanent in many communities.”H.687 is a land use bill that puts municipalities into different tiers. Tier 1A could include cities like Burlington and Rutland, which could become fully exempt from Act 250 triggers because they already have water, sewer and other infrastructure.
