California Gas: Why did gas prices go up? [Video]

California is seeing an average price of $4.93 per gallon, compared to a week ago when the average was $4.87, according to AAA.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Gas prices in California have reached a significant milestone. Prices are more expensive now than they were this time last year by an average of eight cents per gallon of regular gas.

Prices have gone up since last week by an average of nearly six cents per gallon across the state, according to AAA. In the Sacramento area, drivers can expect to pay about seven cents more per gallon than last week as of Wednesday.

“This is the time of year we normally see pump prices start to rise,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in a statement. “And while prices have been rather pokey so far, they should begin to accelerate and move higher very soon.”
