Carbon-14 radioactive isotope enters mass production in China [Video]

China claims that it has achieved success in starting mass production of a radioactive isotope –Carbon-14, which has wide ranging uses in science and medicine.

The mass production of carbon-14, as reported by state media’s China Science Daily, is being done at a commercial nuclear reactor in the eastern province of Zhejiang.

As per experts, this will end China’s near-total dependence on imports for the isotope. The country had been sourcing supplies in the past from countries like Russia, Canada, South Africa and Australia.

The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) revealed that the isotopewas produced by the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, which is run by one of its subsidiaries.
