CHILLICOTHE (25News Now) – Timothy Tobin of Eagle Companies in Chillicothe is experimenting by building homes with steel, and he believes this could be the future of home buying for those on a budget.
Tobin said steel is more carbon-friendly and more affordable for new home buyers.
He added that using steel rather than concrete creates a tighter seal to a home, blocking outside air from coming in. It also helps recirculate heat and cold air generated by solar energy, reducing its carbon footprint.
“We want to stay with the grid, but we want to reduce our dependency on that grid down 70%,” Tobin said. “We can do that. We can use different materials to get there.”
Tobin has built one steel home so far and said the comfort level is the same.
He said his steel home with two bedrooms and two bathrooms cost $155,000, including sewer and water hookups.
