Copco 1 Dam to be the second dam removed from Klamath River | Waterwatch [Video]

This will be the second dam to be removed.

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — Removal of another dam on the Klamath River has begun.

After a test blast on Friday, crews are now working to remove the Copco 1 dam. It is the second dam to be removed as part of the Klamath dam removal project.

The dam was built in 1918, for the sole purpose of hydro-electric power — and is expected to be removed by the end of August.

The Klamath River Renewal Corporation said all dams are expected to be removed this fall, in time for the fall run of the Chinook salmon.
