Those working in artificial intelligence (AI) often tout it as the technology of the future, helping humans to solve the world’s biggest challenges – like climate change.

But one expert is warning that it could further exacerbate a problem that is already harming the planet.

Open AI’s Chat GPT uses twice the amount of electricity as a typical Google search, according to a new report from the International Energy Agency.

That report cites research from Alex De Vries, who shares his concerns with Global’s Nathaniel Dove.
