DELHI is facing a major water crisis as Yamuna’s level at Wazirabad has dropped three feet below what is required for normal functioning of the city. This has happened due to illegal sand mining along river banks in Haryana and the situation may get worse as this year is expected to be extremely hot, Delhi Jal Board said on Tuesday.
Delhi had experienced its third warmest February day this year in over 5 decades, according to the India Meteorological Department. The IMD also recorded India’s warmest February this year, since 1901, with the maximum national average temperature touching 29.54 degrees Celsius. The national weather forecaster predicts there are increased chances of heat waves between March and May.
