Facing criticism, California amps up its climate change blueprint [Video]

New initiatives have been added to California’s draft scoping plan, including climate-friendly homes, offshore wind and cleaner airplane fuels.

Responding to concerns of Gov. Gavin Newsom and environmentalists, the California Air Resources Board has bolstered its climate roadmap with several new strategies, including offshore wind development, climate-friendly housing construction, cleaner aviation fuels and reducing miles traveled.

The changes to California’s proposed climate change scoping plan also include fast-tracking projects by 2030 to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and from the smokestacks of polluting industries. No such projects exist in California and the practices are controversial

Unveiled in May, California’s draft scoping planoutlines an expansive list of strategies to combat climate change and fulfill a state mandate to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. Group marches against banks funding fossil fuels in Sacramento [Video]

The group Third Act Sacramento held a protest in Sacramento as part of a national day of action to pressure banks to stop funding fossil fuel projects. The march from 10th Street and Capitol Mall to the Wells Fargo Center in Sacramento was one of 85 events happening across the country. Third Act is made up of activists who are 60 years and older. They delivered thousands of bank customer pledges to withdraw funds.
