WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Grocery store visits are slightly more costly compared to the start of last year, according to the latest federal Consumer Price Index report.
Given uncertainty about costs, DC News Now continues to track where kitchen table essentials are most affordable at major supermarkets in the DMV.
What grocery prices have dropped, risen recently in the DMV
The USDA said grocery prices rose 5% last year; when meats, dairy and fats and oils got more costly. Meantime, the administration said food prices have increased 25% over the past four years.
According to prices published online Friday, DC News Now price checked for low cost products found at Walmart, Giant and Safeway, compared to one week prior.
A 12-count carton of brown eggs was priced $3.12 at Walmart, and they priced a 2% gallon of milk at $2.26.
