India’s wholesale price index in February moderated primarily on account of a sharper fall in manufactured products and power prices, data released by the commerce ministry showed on Thursday, March 14. In February, wholesale prices eased to a four-month low of 0.20% year-on-year, compared with a 0.27% gain in January.

The latest figures were also slower than CNBC-TV18’s poll of 0.22%.

Positive rate of inflation in February, 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, electricity, machinery & equipment and motor vehicles, trailers & semi-trailers etc,” according to a government release.

In February, manufactured product prices fell 1.27% against a 1.13% fall in the previous month, while fuel and power prices fell 1.59% from a year earlier, compared with a 0.51% drop in January.
