IndyGo unveils new buses for Purple Line [Video]

The 60-foot electric battery buses will serve the upcoming Purple Line, a 15-mile route that will connect downtown Indianapolis to the city of Lawrence.

INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo is showing off the newest buses in its fleet.

The 60-foot electric battery buses will serve the upcoming Purple Line, a 15-mile route that will connect downtown Indianapolis to the city of Lawrence. 

The buses are more environmentally friendly than previous buses used by IndyGo. The agency says the technology used by the buses uses near zero-emission propulsion systems, which they say will improve air quality and reduce noise pollution. 

IndyGo is also using solar panels on its West Washington Street facility to produce some of the energy needed to charge the new buses.

Once completed later this year, IndyGo estimates riders will only wait about 15 minutes between buses at stops along the Purple Line. One end of the route is at the IndyGo Transit Center downtown, traveling along Capitol Avenue to …
