Geophysicist Steve Jacobsen, a key member of the discovery team, had stated that the ringwoodite, where the ocean has been found, resembled a sponge, capable of soaking up water. He noted that there was something particularly unique about the crystal structure of ringwoodite, which enabled it to attract hydrogen and trap water.
