MTA unveils new hydrogen buses and electric vehicles | Local [Video]

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – The Mass Transportation Authority announced that they have received federal money to purchase two hydrogen-powered buses.

The MTA applied and received more than $4.4 million from the Federal Transit Administration Low-No Grant. 

With the grant money, the MTA purchased two hydrogen fuel cell buses and upgraded fueling equipment for the existing hydrogen refueling station. These buses will replace the diesel buses and will support MTA’s commitment to moving to a zero-emission fleet. 

MTA also received more than $400,000 of federal funding from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program to purchase and install electric charging stations and purchase five electric vehicles.

Consumers Energy has also donated an electric vehicle.
