STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Trees were downed and electricity was halted in neighborhoods throughout Staten Island in the wake of Sunday night’s sudden torrential downpour.
Great Kills was hit particularly hard, as several trees were toppled along a section of Oakdale Street. In most instances, the large trees were seen uprooted from the ground by the sidewalk and were leaning against power cables in front of houses in the South Shore neighborhood.
On the same street a large tree fell across the width the road, making the street appear to be impassable by drivers. In another instance, the view of two homes was blocked by a pair of fallen trees that landed the sidewalk.
