SC congressional candidates 18-year-old son charged with assault [Video]

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – The son of a state First Congressional District candidate was arrested earlier this week.

Brooks Hampton Templeton, 18, is charged with first-degree assault and battery, jail records state.

The charges stem from a Jan. 12 fight at a house party on Haddrell Street in Mount Pleasant, an affidavit states.

Templeton was involved in a fight with classmates when he repeatedly struck a victim multiple times in the head causing severe bruising, swelling, contusions and black eyes. The affidavit states the victim suffered from at least four seizures that night, which led to him being taken to the hospital.

Witnesses claimed they heard Templeton say he needed to “call his lawyer” after the incident.

Brooks is the son of Catherine Templeton, a Republican candidate running for South Carolina’s First Congressional District. She is also the former director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental …
