Severe weather shatters windows in Houston, TX: At least 4 dead | LiveNOW from FOX

Houston Mayor John Whitmire has just confirmed to FOX 26 that severe weather has turned fatal in the Bayou City.

Whitmire said that four people lost their lives as a result of Thursday’s weather in an interview with FOX 26 Houston.

It’s unclear where the fatalities occurred as first responders are still working to clear debris. City and county officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads, so emergency crews can get to areas safely.

According to CenterPoint Energy, more than 1 million customers were without power.

“There has been damage to several of our facilities in the Houston-area service territory,” CenterPoint Energy said in a statement. “As the line of severe weather has made its way through our region, it is now safe for our crews to begin assessing damage but can confirm we’ve experienced significant damage to our system.”

Meanwhile, the severe weather across the Houston area has led to some school districts canceling class on Friday, May 17.
