South Charleston residents deal with high-water cleanup [Video]

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Shellie Laws is just one person in clean-up mode after Thursday’s heavy rain in Kanawha County.

“It was terrible … so I was just talking on the phone with my son, and he lives on Ohio Street. He was flooding, so I said ‘I better check the creek out back’ and I opened my back door and I was breached,” Laws said.

Shellie explained it was her mother’s house, and now it’s hers and that it’s filled with family mementos and memories.

“This was my mom’s home and she passed away… it’s just emotional because you would lose everything put, piece stuff back together like that. It would take forever, it would be a total loss, and it’s already a loss. Because you know the crawl space or the basement is totally flooded, so the smell is horrific.
