Spring Cleaning: Annual Arlington pipe cleaning begins Monday [Video]

The annual cleaning will not interrupt service to customers, but it will slightly change the taste and smell of the water coming out of the tap.

Arlington County, the District of Columbia, and northeastern Fairfax will adjust their water treatment processes beginning March 25 and lasting through May 6. As part of an annual practice, the usual disinfectant chloramine will be temporarily swapped out with chlorine. This is done to ensure the water mains remain clean and clear.

The annual cleaning will not interrupt service to customers, but it will slightly change the taste and smell of the water coming out of the tap. Arlington officials want residents to know this is normal and that the water is still safe to drink. County staff will continue to monitor chlorine levels to ensure water quality meets the required standards.
