Summit Carbon Solutions CEO talks project update, permit process in Iowa and the Dakotas [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A major carbon-capture pipeline project is moving ahead, and one northwest Iowa county is making sure they are up to speed on its progress.

The Sioux County Board of Supervisors met with representatives from Summit Carbon Solutions Tuesday morning. The board says it isn’t opposed to the project, and like to stay up-to-date on its progress in the county.

For one supervisor, the sticking point is a private company using eminent domain to get land from landowners, who don’t sign easements.

”I’m not against the private pipeline, I’m just against the use of eminent domain,” said Supervisor Carl Vande Weerd. “And I wish they (the state) would realize that we as supervisors know what’s happening in our county a lot more than what is happening in Des Moines or around. So it’s very critical to us, local control, is what we’d like to see happen.”
