Texas Railroad Commission to okay weatherization rules [Video]

The Texas Railroad Commission is set today to approve weatherization standards to harden natural gas wells and pipelines in Texas, a year and a half after the deadly deep freeze of 2021.

But critics of the plan are unhappy. The Texas legislature and the Public Utility Commission established the rules but the Railroad Commission controls fines for breaking them.

Many consumer advocates consider the maximum $5,000 fine to be wildly inadequate saying it will be cheaper for power companies to simply pay the occasional fine rather than spend money to meet the new standards.
