TVA celebrates the expansion of the Paradise Combustion Turbine Plant [Video]

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – This morning, the Tennessee Valley Authority hosted a dedication ceremony in Drakesboro to celebrate the Paradise Combustion Turbine Plant.

Commercial operation of the three newly constructed units began in December last year.

According to Jeff Lyash, the President and CEO of the TVA, the new units add approximately 750 megawatts of natural gas generation capacity and can power more than 400,000 homes.

“This is necessary to support the growth we’re seeing here in Kentucky and across our service industry,” Lyash said. “It helps us replace some of our retiring, aging coal fleet. So, good for economic development, good for system reliability, and good for the environment.”

According to a press release by the TVA, the project was completed on schedule and under budget.

The project also had no significant environmental events, no serious OSHA events, and no injuries resulting in lost time.
