FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The University of Arkansas’ Fullbright College of Arts and Sciences welcomed internationally renowned artist Jacob Paa Joe Jr., who is known for his craftsmanship of coffins in Ghana.
For two weeks, students have been able to work on a coffin with the artist while learning about Ghana’s community burial practices and beliefs.

“It is our belief that life continues in the afterlife. So, once someone dies they are buried in a coffin that represents their career, what they did, or the symbol of their family. So, I want the viewers to know you can still do what you did on earth in the afterlife,” Joe said.
Students were able to take part in a Ghanaian funeral procession and walk with the coffin they helped create.
