UN Chief Blasts Fossil Fuel Industry for ‘Influence Peddling’ [Video]

António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, called out fossil fuel companies for ‘kneecapping’ progress toward net-zero goals on June 15. ‘Fossil fuel companies must also cease and desist influence peddling and legal threats designed to kneecap progress,’ Guteress said. ‘I’m thinking particularly of recent attempts to subvert net-zero alliances invoking antitrust legislations. Collective climate action does not violate antitrust. It upholds the public trust.’

This statement seems targeted at recent attempts by Republicans to stop companies from implementing policies and investments toward environment, social, and governance goals. They say that ‘woke’ companies might violate the U.S.’s antitrust regulations.
