UPDATE: Missing lock on police transport van leads to short-lived, frantic chase [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – A missing lock tool on a Peoria Police transport van allowed a man, arrested for an earlier reported aggravated domestic battery charge, an easy escape.

The Peoria Police Department said in a statement that Daniel Moody, 32, was being transported to the Peoria County Jail around 8:30 Wednesday night when he jumped out of the moving van.

As the driving officer approached the intersection of Main St. and N. Parkside, the dashboard alarm sounded signifying the back door was open. The officer then found that Moody had escaped and immediately notified an emergency communications dispatcher. A search ensued, with Moody arrested in the 900 block of Cooper.

People who live in the area say the screams and police lights that filled the streets caught their attention immediately.
