Battle against ‘expansion of renewables’ in regional Australia has ‘only just begun’

The battle in regional Australia against the “massive expansion of renewable energy” has only just begun, says Sky News host Chris Kenny.

This comes after Energy Minister Chris Bowen declared an offshore wind zone off the South Australian coast was just one fifth the size of what was proposed, and the new zone takes out all the area across the border into waters off South Australia.

“Still, with this battle won now by the cray fishers of Port MacDonnell and other areas along the coast of South Australia, the next step in this saga of course is all too predictable,” Mr Kenny said.

“Sure enough, the remaining 20 per cent of the offshore wind zone, off Warrnambool and Port Fairy in Victoria is meeting resistance from some groups, including the two local councils.

“So Blackout Bowen … isn’t out of the woods on this offshore wind zone yet, he could yet be left blowing in the wind – and then there’s more offshore wind zones planned for Victoria, and for New South Wales.

“And there’s transmission line protests, and opposition to solar farms.”
