PLEASANT PRAIRIE — A minivan and a hybrid vehicle burst into flames while one was giving the other a jump start in a parking lot at an area tourism center Tuesday afternoon.

The vehicle fires were reported at 2:46 p.m. at the Wisconsin Welcome Center, 10519 120th Ave., in the village, according to Lt. Zach Quever of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department.

Quever said the battery in a Chrysler minivan, a rental vehicle, apparently was receiving a charge from a Toyota Prius. The battery in the minivan then caught fire, which spread quickly and partially ignited the hybrid vehicle.

Quever said the minivan was fully engulfed in flames and the Prius partially ablaze when firefighters from the Pleasant Prairie Fire Department arrived at the scene. In addition to the village’s public safety personnel, firefighters from Bristol and Paris fire departments also responded.
