The Stage 1 Water Conservation Plan means there are mild water shortage conditions.

KILLEEN, Texas — Several Central Texas cities are now under Stage 1 water restrictions thanks to rising lake levels in Lake Belton.

Both the City of Killeen and Harker Heights said the Brazos River Authority confirmed that Lake Belton’s lake level rose above 6 feet and is anticipated to remain above that level for an extended period of time.

The cities fell under the Bell County Water Control and Improvement District #1. They were in Stage 2 since Aug. 1, 2023. Other cities now under Stage 1 restrictions included Copperas Cove, Belton and Nolanville.

The Stage 1 Water Conservation Plan means there are mild water shortage conditions:
