The revised Counter-Espionage Law, which came into effect on July 1, 2023, plays a crucial role in safeguarding national security and is part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster the confidence and security of foreign businesses and individuals in China, according to Lou Qinjian, a spokesperson for the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress.

This revision aligns with a series of national security-related laws enacted in recent years, all aimed at enhancing the certainty and peace of mind for foreign entities investing, working, and living in the country, noted Lou, who made the remarks at a press conference held by the NPC, China’s top legislature, in Beijing on Monday.
