The Columbia Police Department and other area first responder agencies held a joint active shooter/intruder training Monday in Columbia.
The groups held the training at The Crossing, a church with a small campus off Grindstone Parkway. Several scenarios were set up as part of the training, and volunteers were brought in to act as civilians. Everything was intended to simulate a real event as closely as possible.
Jenny Hopper, spokesperson for the police department, said the groups that participate in the event take it “extremely seriously.”
“All of this training rolls over to everything,” Hopper said. “Whether it’s a natural disaster, any kind of a high-priority incident.”
Columbia police were joined by the Columbia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services from Boone Health and MU Health Care, as well as Boone County’s Joint Communications and Office of Emergency Management.
