Could Fairbanks help bring inventors pipe dream into reality? [Video]

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – A Colorado-based inventor wants to disrupt worldwide transportation paradigms with a cheaper and faster method for travel and shipping. And he thinks Fairbanks could be the epicenter for that effort.

Daryl Oster envisions another Trans-Alaska pipeline, but it wouldn’t have termini in the state. This pipeline would link up to a global network of bidirectional tubes circulating both goods and travelers around Earth at hundreds — and potentially thousands — of miles per hour.

The tubes would carry individual capsules containing anything from oil, to apples, to vacationing families.

Accelerated by electronic motors, the capsules would hit those unprecedented velocities by leveraging the presence of magnets and the absence of air.
