DICKINSON COUNTY, Iowa (KUOO) – A new pipeline ordinance was adopted in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors adopted a pipeline ordinance on Tuesday, April 16. This new ordinance will regulate hazardous pipelines like the carbon capture pipeline planned by Summit Carbon Solutions.

The Board voted 5-0 to approve the first reading as well as voted to waive the 2nd and 3rd readings which granted final approval.

Supervisor Chairman Bill Leupold said he feels the ordinance is a fair compromise. The ordinance requires these pipelines to be at least 16 hundred feet from cities, homes and other buildings occupied by people.

The ordinance will also require the pipeline to be set back half a mile from:

  • churches
  • schools
  • nursing homes
  • long-term care facilities.
  • parks or other “sensitive areas.”

The ordinance will also require the pipeline to be set back 1,000 feet from animal-feeding operations as well as 200 feet for private water …
