The death toll from wildfires raging in Chile’s central Valparaíso region rose to at least 51 and was likely to increase further, authorities said, as emergency services struggled to quell the deadliest blazes the country has seen in a decade. While people in some parts of the region returned to what remained of their homes, emergency services elsewhere used helicopters and trucks in attempts to put out fires threatening urban areas.
