Energy Crisis | No rolling blackouts for three weeks: Prof Mark Swilling

South Africans have enjoyed more than 24 consecutive days without load shedding.

Eskom has announced that load shedding will remain suspended until further notice.

The power utility has attributed the load shedding reprieve to sustained availability of generation capacity and emergency reserves at its power stations.

However, experts are warning that a lasting solution is needed.

Professor Mark Swilling says the government must urgently end the current crisis by shifting decisively towards a renewable energy economy based on South Africa’s extraordinary wind and solar resources.

Professor Swilling, a distinguished professor of sustainable development at Stellenbosch University, joins us to unpack his position.
