Extended pollen seasons mean greater risks for those with respiratory conditions | Local News [Video]

BANGOR — Pollen season is fast approaching and according to the Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC), changes in climate are causing the season to begin earlier and last longer. Experts say that could have major impacts on those with respiratory conditions. 

“Watery eyes, itchy eyes that kind of symptom easy to manage but it can definitely get more serious if it starts involving breathing or not being able to breath as well,” said Family Nurse Practioner for Northern Light Primary Care at the University of Maine, Sean Sibley. 

According to the Maine CDC, changes in climate such as warmer temps, increasing precipitation and CO2 levels are affecting the length and intensity of allergy season each year. Health professionals say the trend is posing major health risks for some.
