Fresh talks in Cairo for Gaza ceasefire and release of hostages | Push to tax fossil fuel companies [Video]

With the clock apparently ticking down to an all-out Israeli assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says only the U.S. can stop Israel. The White House says Israel has agreed to listen to U.S. concerns before it launches an invasion, as Hamas officials arrive in Cairo in the coming hours, in the latest efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage release deal.

The head of the Ukrainian military has acknowledged that his forces are retreating from positions in eastern Ukraine. General Oleksandr Syrskyi said his troops are outnumbered by Russian ground forces, seeking to consolidate their hold on the region before the arrival of a new package of U.S. military aid.

Thousands of Georgians have protested on the streets of the country’s capital, Tbilisi, facing off against riot police, as they condemned a controversial bill which critics say resembles Russian legislation used to silence dissent.
