CUSTOMERS are being warned that their personal information may have been compromised after credit card skimmers were found inside gas pumps at popular stations.
Investigators in Anderson County, South Carolina located three of the sneaky devices at Wawa and 7-Eleven.
“What’s the most nerve-wracking part is you can’t see them from the outside,” Shale Remien, the public information officer for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office told CBS affiliate WSPA-TV.
“You have no idea that this is sitting inside capable of stealing your credit card numbers.”
The first skimmer was found when a gas station technician opened one of the pumps and saw the device.
The technician tipped off the police, which launched an investigation, finding more devices at other gas stations.
