Gov. Janet Mills announced today the state has chosen Sears Island as the location for an offshore wind port. This decision has been years in the making. The governor first announced her plans to explore port development to support floating offshore wind projects in November of 2021.The port in Sears Island would be used to support any offshore wind turbines. Mills said a lot went into deciding which location would be the best for the offshore wind port and that it was not an easy decision to make. The decision came down to choosing either Sears Island or Mack Point. Mills cited several reasons as to why she chose one over the other.
