HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Connecticut has some of the highest electric rates in the country.
Now those rates could go up again.
However, there is a proposal for some relief.
“It’s just another hit to the budget with grocery prices going up, with gas prices fluctuating all the time. It’s tough sometimes,” said Rebekka Enes of East Berlin.
She feels like most of us: everything is more expensive, and we have little control.
Eversource is once again seeking a rate hike, as this one, if approved, would add another $38 to your bill.
They say one of the main reasons for this increase is the $600 million in federal and state mandates that are listed on the latest bill as public benefits.
The other reason they say is a shutoff moratorium.
Put in place during the pandemic for those who couldn’t pay their bills, Eversource says it cost them $160 million.
“[People] are beyond frustrated at the ever-growing cost of utilities,” said Stephen Harding, the Republican minority leader.
