ATLANTIC, Iowa (WOWT) – A fuel spill in western Iowa is being investigated by the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
The Iowa DNR’s Atlantic Field Office reported a fuel spill at a Casey’s gas station in Atlantic on Wednesday.
Officials say a transport truck was filling an underground tank when the gas began to overflow, releasing an unknown amount of fuel into the parking lot, and eventually into a unnamed tributary of the East Nishnabotna River.
Residents are encouraged to avoid the area around the spill as an environmental consulting firm helps with the clean-up process. The Iowa DNR is still investigating the incident.
