Italy dam blast: At least 3 dead, 4 missing as rescue efforts continue [Video]

Search and rescue operations began on Wednesday after at least three people were killed in a fire and subsequent explosion underground at a hydroelectric power plant in northern Italy.

Four others were unaccounted for following the blast at a dam on Lake Suviana — one of three artificial lakes that feed the power station — according to the officials.

“The situation is very difficult. Water is rising very quickly,” Fire Brigade spokesperson Luca Cari said, adding “The scenario we see does not make us believe much in these hypotheses, but I repeat that we are also accustomed to miracles. We focus on that, but we are not very optimistic in this regard.”
