Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced Tuesday morning that the GM and Samsung EV battery plant is coming to St. Joseph County.

The battery cell plant will be built just east of New Carlisle at Larrison Boulevard and Indiana 2.

It will supply GM’s growing EV production needs.

Officials say the $3.5 billion plant will create as many as 1,700 manufacturing jobs with an average pay of $24 per hour.

They say construction of the plant will take about two years and they hope it will begin at the end of this year.

They hope the plant will be ready to start production in 2026.

The construction project could also create another 1000 jobs.

ABC57 had live team coverage of this huge announcement and the impact it will have on the economy and the people of Michiana.
