THE Government is facing fresh calls to postpone a planned increase in taxes on petrol and diesel in August as the price at the pumps climbs towards €2 again.
Last month, the Coalition added four cent to the price of a litre of petrol and three cent to diesel by lifting temporary excise cuts introduced at the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
The Government partners had slashed taxes on fuel after prices shot up following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and have been slowly unwinding these cuts.
The final tax cuts will be unwound in August with a last price hike coming in October when petrol will rise by five cent and diesel by four cent.
