MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – As we prepare to spring forward this weekend and move our clocks up an hour, the Meridian Fire Department wants to remind you of some household tasks to keep in mind.
The department said Daylight Saving Time is the perfect time to check on your smoke detectors and possibly change the batteries.
Chief Michael Evans said having a working smoke alarm could be the difference between life and death.
“And what most people don’t understand, is this smoke detector is the only thing that’s going to save your life at night when you will sleep in the bed. A lot of people think that, when I’m asleep, I’m going to smell the smoke and I’m going to wake up and get out of the house. That’s not true. Smoke makes you sleep harder.
