SIOUX CITY — Severe weather continued to roll through Siouxland Tuesday, after storms produced heavy rainfall, high winds, and, in some regions, golf ball-size hail.

The National Weather Service predicted more storms into Tuesday evening, including the possibility of tornadoes across a swath of Northwest Iowa, Northeast Nebraska and Southeast South Dakota. 

Overnight, winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour downed electric lines in some areas. Over 2,000 MidAmerican Energy customers in the utility’s Sioux City territory lost power shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the majority in the Riverside and North Sioux City area. By mid-afternoon, power had been restored to all but nine customers.

Riverside Elementary School, West Middle School and West High School started their school days without power. Students, staff and teachers were still asked to report, with power restored by 8:30 a.m.
